Having been an avid reader my entire life and i am now seventy nine years old, I do not know how I missed Vernon Coleman's books. I can assure you that I am catching up. This is evidently the most delightful reading have ever done and i rank it right up there with Jan Karoon and the Mittford series which I have now read three times. I can promise these books will go with me to a dessert island if I ever had to go. I have visited this part of England and stayed in Lynton. I wish I had read these books then. Mr. Coleman writes so that I could read it to Sunday school class and not being a fan of nor ever having seen a cricket game (other than the short segment on Downton Abbey) I believe I would rank the description of the BIlbury Cricket Club game right there with Lucy and Ethel working in the chocolate factory.I am now on volume 6, the short stories which are delightful and promise I will read everything he has written before I am through and park these in the cloud so that I can go back again and again. So happy i can loan them and have already hooked several people on Mr. Coleman which is a good place to be hooked.

The Bilbury Books are wonderful. Very nicely written, hilarious, but with respect to the locals. I heartily recommend the Bilbury Books. Vernon Coleman really knows the North Devon territory and its inhabitants.
Silly and boring. He lost me when he told about his wife taking a snail out of the lettuce and releasing it back in to the garden. I tried to get through this book but failed. I'm hitting the delete button on this one.
I have enjoyed all of the series and encourage others to read them.
Fun reading but the young country doctor is no longer practicing medicine at this point. He's more a young country author and villager. Still fun to read.
What a wonderful escape free my humdrum daily life . This book is just what the doctor prescribed. I look forward to the next book.

Delightful, easy to read......... if you enjoy small town medical style books...... you will enjoy........ no angst, no tragedy.
This series is mis- titled. The main character is a doctor but quit in the first book for various reasons,and became a writer. Why does he continue calling this The Young Country Doctor series? One would expect to read about the doctor and his patients. I made the mistake of purchasing the whole series which I am stuck with. The stories are about he and his wife's experiences and various people in the community. Some of the stories are good , however and he is developing his writing skills,good for him. Maybe he will become a practicing doc again one day and the title will be correct.
